Abstract
Sequelae are essentially limited to the heart and depend on the presence and severity of carditis during the acute attack. The lasting structural and functional alterations of the heart caused by rheumatic fever and referred to collectively as “rheumatic heart disease” are described in detail in textbooks of cardiology. They will be dealt with here only briefly, and mostly in terms of their relation to the acute attacks.
