Abstract
The clinical manifestations of rheumatic fever involve various organ systems. They are regularly preceded by a streptococcal pharyngitis (which may be symptomatic or asymptomatic, but in either case diagnosable by elevation of streptococcal antibody titers) and they are followed by healing or by chronic rheumatic heart disease.
