Abstract
Neusiedlersee is a very shallow steppe lake (\( \overline m\) = 1.3 m). High inorganic turbidity and horizontal watertransportation is common, because of strong wind in this region. Except for light, horizontal gradients, such as turbidity, chlorophyll or biomass, are more important than is vertical differentiation. The effects on primary production are discussed.
