Abstract

Among all the sophisticated techniques developed for data analysis, geostatistics is undoubtedly the most suitable for natural phenomena studies. Conditional simulation, one of the geostatistical techniques, has been applied in the Lagoa Parda field characterization to study the spatial distribution of discontinuous shales, using the clay volume (VSH) supplied by gamma ray logs from 47 wells as the regionalized variable. The variographic analysis showed two main directions (E-W and N-S) and the conditional simulation generated a three-dimensional distribution of the clay volume that reproduced the real (experimental) variability.
