Overzicht
Voor de taak staande, om tot een wijdere kring van belangstellenden over een natuurkundig onderwerp te spreken, zou het tegennatuurlijk zijn, te zwijgen over datgene, wat in de laatste tijd, en in het bijzonder het afgelopen jaar, in zo stijgende mate onze aandacht spant en vasthoudt. Met enkele sprongen is de natuurkunde zooveel verder gekomen, wij hebben iets te zien gekregen dat wederom zoveel dieper reikt dan wij meenden te kunnen peilen, dat wij daarbij moeten stilstaan en dat onze verbazing en fantasie telkens terugkeren naar die ontdekkingen, die ook den geblaseerdste moeten doen opkijken en tot nieuwsgierigheid prikkelen.
