Abstract

The R2-xCexCuO4 (R=Nd,Pr, 0≤x≤0.2) compounds have been the subject of intensive investigations since the discovery of superconductivity in some of these substances [1,2]. The superconducting transition is observed for samples in a narrow doping range (0.13≤x≤0.18) after oxygen reduction, with a highest Tc of ≈24 K [3]. In contrast to the previously found high-Tc superconductors like YBa2Cu3Ox or La2-xSrxCuO4, these substances have a simple tetragonal structure (Fig. 1), which makes them attractive for the investigation of superconductivity. There are still many open questions concerning the properties of these compounds, for instance it is still controversial for what doping range superconductivity is observed, see e.g. [4], and whether the charge carriers are electron- or hole-like. Recent experiments suggest the existence of two types of charges carriers [5], but the main part of carriers are nevertheless considered to be electron-like.
