Abstract

The four hundred and ten men and women elected to the European Parliament in June 1979 came to their responsibilities with a great variety of views about the role and significance of the body to which they had been elected.

Robert Jackson is MEP for Upper Thames. He is a prominent member of the Parliament’s Budget Committee, and the author of the Penguin Guide to the European Parliament.
