Deformation, Recovery and Recrystallisation Processes

  • Chapter

Abstract

This chapter is concerned with the general processes underlying the deformation, recovery and recrystallisation of crystalline materials. The general principles have been summarised for structural geologists in leading text-books.9,15 After a discussion of brittle vs ductile deformation, I will deal with general aspects of crystal plasticity, followed by a discussion of dislocations (line defects) in crystals and their effect on deformation, recovery and recrystallisation.
