Abstract

Clearly the Conservatives were masters of the Land when Gustav Stresemann appeared on the Saxon scene, first as a student at the University of Leipzig (1900–01), and then as an apprentice trade-association manager in Dresden. Although he had been born (1878) and raised in Berlin, during the decade he lived in Saxony, his outspoken antipathy for Bündler, whether Prussian or Saxon, excited both sympathy and hostility there.
