Commissioner General Viscount Du Bus de Gisignies (1826–1829)

  • Chapter
The Failure of a Liberal Colonial Policy

Abstract

We he Commissioners General had failed to solve the problems which confronted them. We have also seen how van der Capellen failed to establish a satisfactory policy. By appointing Du Bus and providing him with the necessary instructions, the King hoped to solve these problems or at least to be advised as to the way in which the internal disequilibrium in the Indies should be remedied and the relationship to the mother country improved.
