Abstract
By 1936, the responsible church officials, leaders of the Bund, and the religion teachers had done all within their power to make Neudeutschland conform to the myriad requirements of the National Socialist state. The Bund had become, to all intents and purposes, simply an adjunct of the bishops’ office, having acquired official church standing. Having conformed to the public demands of state and party, they were now determined to maintain the existence of the organization at all costs. The organization’s religious instruction was deemed so vital that continued existence was considered necessary in spite of the prevailing conditions.
