Abstract
In this connection it seems worthwhile to mention briefly some poetry which I happened to come across, written by the same Mas Marco: Sair-Sair Rempah (Various Verses, 1918), two small volumes totalling 40 pages.34 These were originally published in Sinar Hindia, the newspaper of which Mas Marco was an editor. Some of these poems were written in jail, as the first strophe of the first poem shows:
Sair inilah dari pendjara
Waktu kami baru dihukumnja,
Di-Weltevreden tempat tinggalnja,
Dua belas bulan punja lama.35
