Abstract

After this survey of a number of marginal and semi-literary works, we finally come to a consideration of the most recent literature in Indonesia. By the most recent literature I mean that produced by writers who appeared or became prominent after about 1955. It was possible in the preceding section to aim at a complete survey, albeit with certain reservations due to the lack or paucity of material on the “penny dreadfuls”, on Indonesian-Chinese literature and on scattered works; in this concluding section, however, it is not possible even to aim at completeness. After what has already been repeatedly observed on the problems of documentation, sifting out of material and periodisation, there will be no need to defend this lack of completeness.
