Abstract
Although the work of Trisno Sumardjo makes no great impact, it has a certain appeal and attractiveness because of his modesty which distinguishes him from some of his contemporaries. He is a Javanese, somewhat older than most writers of the Angkatan 45 (he was born in 1916), but as far as we can establish from publications he played only a minor role in the early post-war years, although he did appear as joint editor of some literary journals. Besides being a creative artist he was active as a translator. In this connection we can mention his translations of not less than seven of Shakespeare’s plays.193
