Background of Dutch Political Life

  • Alan David Robinson

In order to understand the political activities of Dutch agricultural organisations on international issues it is essential to be acquainted with certain aspects of Dutch political life since the Second World War. This political life is carried on within a framework of a constitutional monarchy, a parliamentary democracy with a bi-cameral legislature, and a unitary, as opposed to a federal, structure of government. The following pages are intended to provide a kind of portrait of political life in the Netherlands rather than to provide a complete description. For more detailed accounts the reader is referred elsewhere.1
