Abstract

Bali can boast uninterrupted literary activity over a period of over a thousand years. During the latter part of this period the population growth was greater than the expansion of agriculture, so that more hands and minds became free for the arts and literature. No wonder that much material dealing with the PaƱca Kosika, who sometimes in treatises are the main characters and always occupy a high rank, could be found. An endeavour has been made in the present book to compile all the material that could be found, written over the ages on these creators, in texts originating from Java and mainly from Bali.
