Abstract
While it is difficult to claim either Mao or Liu as a true disciple of Marxism in terms of adhering to all Marx’ and Engels’ teachings in detail (or, for that matter the Soviet leaders either), by and large, the Chinese leaders applied the principles of dialectic materialism and historical materialism extensively in their conduct of the revolution in China whenever this was feasible. Thus, if we remember that they perceive Marxism as a “guide to action” rather than as “dogma,” then we will understand better the contributions made by Mao and Liu in the theoretical field.
