Abstract
After the flight of Louis Philippe there was an uneasy interim in Franco-Belgian relations before the new Provisional Government was in full diplomatic contact with Brussels. As late as the morning of February 29, d’Hoffschmidt had had no official word from the Provisional Government. Neither had he received any French newspapers nor any dispatch from the Prince de Ligne. On the 28th, d’Hoffschmidt instructed the Prince to remain at Paris and to adopt, until the situation was clear, the same attitude as his colleagues from other constitutional states.1
