Long-Term Maintenance Pharmacotherapy in Recurrent and Chronic Affective Disorders

  • Chapter
The Chronically Mentally Ill

Abstract

This review deals with the pharmacologic treatment of recurrent and chronic depressive disorders, areas that have been relatively neglected in the research literature. I will focus first on the use of drugs for the long-term maintenance treatment of patients with recurrent major depressions, then discuss briefly the sparse data available on maintenance pharmacotherapy of chronically depressed patients.
