Abstract
The value of maintenance therapy with neuroleptic drugs to reduce the risk of relapse in schizophrenic patients is well documented (see review by Davis, 1975; Goldberg et al., 1979; Hogarty et al., 1974). Schizophrenic patients maintained on placebo have two to three times higher relapse rates than do similar patients treated with standard neuroleptic medications.
