Abstract

Manganese (Mn) does not occur in an uncombined state in nature but may, like chromium, be produced in the electric furnace and by the Thermit process (see under Aluminium on p. 318). It is a light, pinky-grey metal, melting at about 1,260°C, and having a specific gravity of about 7–4.’
