Abstract

In Chap. 1 we have solved the case of a beam traversed by a load with mass negligible against the beam mass. Now we shall tackle the other extreme case, i.e. that of the beam mass very small compared to the mass of the moving load. As this primary assumption implies, our computation will have to take account not only of the force effects of the moving load but according to d’Alembert’s principle, of its inertia effects as well.
