Abstract
If the vehicle axle base is comparable with the beam span, it cannot be neglected as done in Chap. 8 but must be included in the analysis. The problem of motion of a two-axle vehicle along a beam was first treated by R. K. Wen [230] whose solution was based on the assumption that the vehicle wheels were continually in contact with the roadway. However, owing to track irregularities the contact between wheels and roadway is easily lost and an impact follows shortly thereafter.*)
