Abstract

Whilst it is clear that the subject matter of this paper will be dominated by a consideration of one rather narrow aspect of the present situation in pig production, the broader influential factors of the past and the apparent trends of the near future cannot readily be discounted. Indeed the future direction of pig production will be the result of a large number of pressures and responses dominated by the set of major interacting systems shown in Figure 1.
