Abstract
Even before there was any question of air navigation in the modern sense, legal experts turned their attention to the status of aeronauts. These early studies were usually in the form of a “construction juridique à priori” which was a “pure spéculation savante et subtile” and which would depend on future technical development in aviation for a solid foundation.1
