Abstract
The development of the theory of the differentiated soul applicable to all individuals initially begins in the Republic. It is this concept of the soul which constitutes the generic nature of man in the Republic. Its extension to all men is practical as well as theoretical. Not only is it characteristic of the nat’ire of all individuals, but also under the proper conditions all men can achieve that excellence of the soul without knowledge of the forms.
