Abstract
In the previous choice of ideals we have been dealing with behavior within a perspective, one which is individual, social or human. Here we shall try to discover the choice of ideals which gets away from perspectives. This can be done only by using the perspectives which have been occupied at some particular time and place. But the goal of all ethics, the ultimate ethical ideal, is the good of the universe as a whole, the good of the cosmos. This takes us back somewhat to Hegel’s position. Nothing is good except as it contributes to the good of the whole universe (Hegel’s “Absolute Idea” or the synthesis of the Absolute Idea in the “Spirit” or “Absolute Reality.”)
