Abstract
Within the examination of Lutheran writings against the Anabaptists there remains the problem of evaluation. What were the sources of information on Anabaptism used by Luther, Melanchthon, and Menius? What precisely does their Anabaptism consist of? Whom do they regard as typical Anabaptists? How does their picture of the movement compare with that derived from other sources, from the Anabaptists themselves? These are questions which require our attention at this point.
