Abstract
Although the Austrian economy has been characterised for almost a decade by a gratifying state of prosperity, there are still areas of Austria even today which are considerably behindhand in their economic development and whose economic activity is insufficient to provide all the people living there with work and bread. The cause of this uneven regional development of the Austrian economy are manifold and cannot be reduced directly to a common denominator. Consequently we shall take the course of quoting a few decisive factors.
