Abstract

This paper will deal with those hormones which may exert an action on the organization of the whole nervous system, i.e. thyroid hormones, pituitary growth hormone (GH), and corticosteroids. The action of testicular androgens, which seems to be localized to well delineated parts of the CNS, e.g. some hypothalamic areas, will not be studied (for a recent review of the effects of testicular androgens on the differentiation of the hypothalamus, see ref. 55).

The recent work performed in our laboratory (Drs. J. Clos, C. Favre, C. Legrand, A. Rabie, M. Selme-Matrat and myself) or in collaboration with our group (Drs. Crépe] and Vigouroux, Laboratory of Comparative Physiology, University of Paris VI) and reported in this paper was supported in part by grants from the DGRST (No 72.7.0102 and 75.7.1325), the CNRS (ATP No 1344) and INSERM (No 75.1.204.6).
