Abstract
We saw in the foregoing chapter that there is a historical process in the human personality ; at one state it is mainly sub-conscious, at another state, mainly conscious, at another, mainly supra-conscious. A theory of knowledge which parallels the history of the personality will be investigated in the present chapter. Berdyaev’s method is not primarily rational and objective and his interest in man is not primarily the consciousness. But since the rational is necessary to any discourse at all and admittedly to his own, his theory of rational knowledge will be studied, as well as his criticism of it.
