Abstract

It is common knowledge that in the past the most curious remedies and methods have been applied to obtain a cure of diseases or ailments. Whereas many of them belong to folk medicine, other procedures resulted from special views on the origin and character of some diseases. Blood-letting and leeches for example have been used and misused on a large scale for a long time.
