Abstract
In Kanazawa Natural Park Zoo, Yokohama, Japan, we are now keeping four male Japanese serows and two females, some of which were kept in Nogeyama Zoological Garden from 1979 till May 1984. In Yokohama Zoological Garden we have often carried out haematological and biochemical examination of animals in order to control the health of the animals. Unlike domestic animals and pets, animals kept in the zoo perform the same behaviours as wild ones. The blood condition of the animals was checked to determine their previous infections. In Kanazawa Natural Park Zoo, we examined the blood of ten Japanese serows, five of which are now kept in Kanazawa; the other five were caught in November 1985 in the town of Nakanojo in Gunma Prefecture, using RabAΣ.
