Abstract

A disease is a tissue and organ malfunction with the potential for producing discomfort, disability, or death. What society considers a disease also plays a part. For example, the dermatosis dyschromic spirochetosis (pinta) is not considered a disease in certain South American tribes; in these tribes, having the skin discolorations of pinta increases marriageability [1].
