Abstract
The immune-response system recognises, combines with and destroys antigenic material. The important features and nomenclature of the immune-response system are described in Chapter 6. Readers are advised to consult this latter section first in order to obtain the background information necessary for a full understanding of this chapter, which describes those characteristics of immunoglobulins (antibodies) and the complement system that are responsible for some of these immune effects.
