Abstract
The application examined in this paper is the development of quality control techniques for optical fibre fabrication. It is an example of an application where non-destructive analysis and testing must be applied. The resulting mathematical problem reflects this as it reduces to solving an Abel integral equation which involves an indeterminacy.
