Complex-Induced Coupling Effect: Adhesion of Polymers to Metal Promoted by Azole Compound

  • Conference paper
Controlled Interphases in Composite Materials

Abstract

The adhesion promotion for polymers to metals has been achieved by pretreating metal with benzotriazole. For polymers with polar functional group, the adhesion strength to copper could be improved by 2–3 times. Epoxy resin could be cured on the azole-treated surface of metal, resulting in an incease in tear strength. The reaction mechanism and the structure at the interfacial region were investigated by the use of Surface Enhanced Raman Scattering, IR and DSC.
