Abstract

Step 5, vendor/customer links, marks the final step in the implementation of JIT. Having completed steps 1–4, a company wanting to gain maximum benefit from JIT must now take a wider view. So far the focus has been on in-house changes intended to improve the manufacturing process or to improve manufacturing control. But a manufacturer can only gain so much benefit from in-house changes and in order to give scope for further improvements changes in vendor/customer links may have to be suggested. These changes may well emerge as critical issues in the final stages of the implementation.
