Abstract
The development of measles vaccine followed rapidly on that of poliomyelitis vaccine. The techniques for manufacturing were similar, and the criteria for the acceptability of live virus vaccines, as far as safety and immunogenicity were concerned, had already been worked out from experience with poliovirus vaccines. Indeed, in some respects it has become easier to make virus vaccines than to know to whom they should be given.
