Zusammenfassung
Da dieses Symposion Fragen der experimentellen Pflanzensoziologie gewidmet ist, werde ich versuchen über die Ökologie der Arten zu sprechen, weil diese die Grundelemente der Pflanzengesellschaften bilden und die Kenntnis über ihr ökologisches Verhaltens uns verhelfen würde die Lebensverhältnisse der Pflanzen unter menschenbedingten oder natürlichen Verhältnissen zu beleuchten. Bis jetzt hat eine ungeheuer große Anzahl von Arbeiten auf verschiedenen Gebieten der Biologie und der angrenzenden Naturwissenschaften das Verhalten und die Ansprüche der Pflanzen geklärt und Erkenntnisse über die Beziehungen ihrer Lebensprozesse zur Umwelt niedergelegt. Ungeachtet dessen, gibt es heute keine umfassende Zusammenfassung über die Ökologie der Pflanzenarten. Bei der Unzahl von Veröffentlichungen verschiedener Art ist die Möglichkeit einer Wiederentdeckung schon in Vergessenheit geratener Ergebnisse ziemlich groß.
