Abstract
We have stressed in previous chapters that raw sections obtained with surface seismics are time sections. If we do not know the velocities, our reflection identifications—the correlation of reflection events with geologic markers at known depth—involve an element of risk. We also agreed that variations of velocity from place to place jeopardize our structural interpretations.
