Nuclear power utilisation

Abstract

The principal immediate use of nuclear power is in the generation of electricity where the infrastructure already exists for production, distribution and supply. It does not require any major administrative or organisational changes for the electric utility companies to add nuclear stations to their systems. The utilities are relatively few in number, in some cases national corporations — France, UK, Italy, Korea — with experienced technical management and staff, already involved with government regulatory bodies, and accustomed to working closely with suppliers and inspection authorities in maintaining a high standard of reliability of operation.
