Rubidium salts in depressed patients. An open pilot study using standardized techniques

  • Chapter
Current Trends in Lithium and Rubidium Therapy

Abstract

The history of the therapeutic use in psychiatry of Rubidium strictly parallels that of Lithium. Both of these monovalent cations were employed during the 19th century in several pathological conditions, but not in mental illnesses, despite the very early observations of Lithium’s sedative and hypnotic activity and of an elating effect of Rubidium in cardiopathic patients (1).
