Abstract
A cardiac murmur is the noise or bruit caused by blood in passage through a normal or abnormal vessel, valve or aperture and may be of organic significance. The important point in management is to evaluate if a murmur is significant of an organic lesion. This evaluation becomes even more important when the patient presents with symptoms that might relate to a cardiac lesion; such symptoms as breathlessness, heart failure, syncope or angina being of particular note.
