Abstract

Glaucoma is a term used to describe a number of conditions which are characterized by raised intraocular pressure, cupping of the optic disc and visual field defects. The pathology lies at the optic nerve head which becomes ischaemic as a result of an imbalance between the intraocular pressure and the perfusion pressure in the capillaries of the disc.
