Abstract

The role of estrogens in maintaining bone calcium stores is quite certain. It is clearly demonstrated by bone decalcification in untreated gonadal agenesis (Turner’s syndrome) and in the early and severe osteoporosis seen in women following oophorectomy in the absence of estrogen substitutes.
