Abstract

Relationships are known to exist between the ovary with its hormonal secretion on the one hand and on the other hand the main peripheral receptors, endometrium and vagina; also known is the multiple variety of aspects of the ovary, endometrium and vagina in the pre- and postmenopause, both from the microscopic and macroscopic standpoint, together with the polymorphism of clinical symptomatology associated mainly with hormonal variations consequent upon ovarian senescence, which remains the focal point in periclimacteric physiopathology. Successive stages — first, failure of ovulation, then failure of follicular maturation whence failure of follicles — make the ovary represented eventually by a cortical part having stromal cells, atresic follicles, whitish and vitreous bodies and by a medullary part with clear signs of vasal sclero-ialinosis deteriorating in the course of time.
