Abstract
The ability to use an ophthalmoscope competently is essential if the examination of the inner eye is to be attempted. Every effort should be made to examine both eyes of as many patients as possible, for it is only then that the wide spectrum of normality will be appreciated. When it is convenient the pupils should be dilated.
