Abstract
In the United Kingdom the provision of day services for mentally handicapped adults is the responsibility of the Social Services Department of the area in which the person resides, and this has been provided mainly in the form of adult training centres (ATCs). In addition, there are a number of other facilities for adults which may be provided by local education authorities, through their further education departments, and by voluntary bodies.
