Abstract

This is the dry desert and semi-desert region which roughly speaking lies north of a line drawn from Kitale to Isiolo to Garsen. For those who love the genuinely wild, the remote and the unspoilt this is one of the most marvellous areas in the world. Once visited it acquires a hold which draws one back again and again and again. Its wide open spaces, its jagged and spectacular mountains, its unusual wild life, its great lake and its proud and independent peoples are all attractions for those who do not rate personal comfort the most important item on a holiday.
